Abstract
Considering smart contracts in the context of blockchain technology has the potential to change the perspective of agricultural products insurance by creating transformations in traditional insurance processes and introducing new business models, and on the other hand, emphasizing the fact that the adoption of any new technology is an important part of its development, in the present study, the preferences of agricultural product insurance experts and activists for the use of smart contracts were investigated.
In this study, the characteristics of smart contracts for the development of agricultural products insurance were determined in the form of 5 criteria and 28 sub-criteria, and then by interviewing 15 agricultural products insurance experts in Mazandaran province in 2024 and using the hierarchical analysis process method (AHP), were ranked.
The results of calculating the final weight of each of the sub-criteria showed that the indicators of "prevention of fraud and the possibility of disputes", "visibility of the identity of the insurers" and "increasing trust between the insurer and the insurer" have the highest importance with weights of 0.0539, 0.0538, and 0.05, respectively.
Since the capabilities of smart contracts in the context of blockchain technology have been welcomed by the interviewed experts, it can be suggested that the challenges and obstacles to the implementation of smart contracts in agricultural product insurance, including technological, organizational, and regulatory aspects, should be identified and resolved.
