Abstract
Geography of multidimensional poverty in Iran
Poverty reduction is an important part of sustainable development goals. One of the most important indicators in the field of poverty investigation is the multidimensional poverty index. Multidimensional poverty is a combination of deprivations that exist simultaneously in a family. Therefore, in this research, using the raw data of household income and expenditure sampling plan, the situation of multidimensional poverty in the urban and rural communities of Iran's provinces for the years 2015-2021 was investigated based on the Alkire-Foster method. The results showed that during the investigated years, the Poverty Headcount ratio, poverty intensity and also multidimensional poverty have increased in most of the urban and rural areas of Iran's provinces. According to the results, the urban areas of North Khorasan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad,Tehran provinces and rural areas of Tehran province have the highest number of poor. But the results of the intensity of poverty showed that the highest intensity of poverty was in urban areas of Sistan and Baluchestan, Yazd, Semnan and South Khorasan provinces and in rural areas of Gilan, Markazi, Yazd, Semnan and Isfahan provinces. Based on the results, in general, the multidimensional poverty index of Tehran, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Alborz, Sistan and Baluchestan, Markazi, Isfahan, Qom, Kerman, Yazd, North Khorasan provinces is higher than other provinces. Therefore, the implementation of multidimensional poverty reduction programs for the country, especially the provinces that have the highest multidimensional poverty, should be given more attention.
